In 2017, updates to California State law made it easier for Angelenos to build Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on their properties. ADUs are an easy and affordable way to increase the housing stock throughout Los Angeles, helping alleviate the City’s housing crisis. Through the LA ADU Accelerator Program, the City of Los Angeles is offering financial incentives to homeowners who are in the process of building ADUs or who have existing ADUs on their property and are willing to rent them to a housing insecure Angeleno for an agreed upon period of time.

Visit our LA ADU Accelerator Program page for more information or see our Homeowner Application Guide to get started.

This website* serves as a guide to homeowners who are interested in building ADUs and provides a step-by-step process on how to get your unit permitted in the City. Learn about the various types of ADUs, explore how to finance your ADU, understand the City’s ADU regulations, read about the benefits of participating in the LA ADU Accelerator Program, and apply to partner with the City here.

*We will update the website with pertinent changes to State and City ADU laws.
